OK, CAN'T SLEEP

OK We're back home now. I guess the hospital schedule has me messed up, Can't sleep real well. Yeah they got me stabilized on the breathing. I had to get the oxygen level above 88 so I could come home. The biggest thing this time is the veins in my arms. My left arm, the chemo has damaged them, and they colapse when they try to use them, so the left arm is off limits. But guess what? The same thing is happening to my right arm, the veins are getting thin and colapsing. The left arm seams to be healing up, but their still fragile. They couldn't get a good IV on me the other day, so they put in a Medi-Port. Permanent fixture in the main artery. No more veins, everthing goes in the port now. But, you don't have to worry about it, at all. It's got this cover deal on it, they just stick whatever they have to in it, and go with it. Besides that they beat me up so bad, my arm looks like I just came from fight club, it's purple and blue from my fingers to my shoulder.

One of the main reasons for it is, the Dr. asked me if I wanted to continue chemo treatment, I said, yes. This round is the tough stuff, I'll get 2 weeks off, go in for blood work and a follow up, then start the chemo again. I go one round of the kick butt stuff, and one round of the other, to try to break up the side effects. Then we'll have another follow up and evaluation to see if this is worth it.

It must be getting to the scary part, the Dr. told me to get things in order and feed the chickens.

OK, gonna go now.

hanging in there...

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to give an update on Dad.  He had gotten a pretty bad cold with a cough that started giving him some breathing trouble.  After it got worse, he went in to the ER on Wednesday morning.  Gave us a scare, but he was able to push through and get stable.  He's in a room now, we're at the Lake, room T547 if anyone needs to know.  He is much much better now, but still not as good as we'd like.  They are keeping him on oxygen to help with the breathing and giving him some simple breathing treatments when needed.  He is going to stay through the weekend at least until they can do some more scans on his lungs.  I will keep writing to let everyone know what's going on.  Don't hesitate to call or come by if anyone would like to.

Let's keep him in our prayers.
We love you guys.

UPDATE

Went to the Onco Dr. last wednesday. All my lab work came back good. He said I was looking good, did I want another treatment. WELL YEAH. They took me back to the infusion room and started to put a pic in my arm. They do this to line the vein, because this new stuff will eat the vein up. Well after some pain and blood everywhere, they tried to start the IV but it wouldn't work right. So they stopped and sent me for an x-ray to see if it was in the vein right. Got x-ray went back to the Dr. office. As soon as we walked in the door they called and told me the x-ray was messed up and I needed to come back. (Oh boy, why didn't they just let me wait). So I went back to x-ray, this time the x-ray Dr. did it himself. It was pretty cool, they had a live computer screen where you could watch in real time.

His conclusion, the veins in my left arm are too small, when they tried to get a blood return they would colapse. He pull it out and re-do it. Well they went to my right arm, here we go, that mutha hurt, again blood everywhere, but it worked. Finished the infusion, now it's about 2:30.

Had an appoinment with Dr. McNeil at 2:00. They got to me about 3:30. He checked out my ulcer and said it was looking good. (again how can an ulcer look good?) Healing up. But he wants me stay with the boot for six more weeks. (damn). I got the Dr. to look at this other little problem I have with my leg. Turns out it's phlebitis. The superficial veins right under the skin clot. They swell up a little and they itch. It can get tender so sometimes it's sore. But there's nothing they do about it, and they don't really worry about it. But hell, it is something else to deal with.

The side effects from the chemo were not as bad this time. The only thing it really did was make me real tired. Thats why I haven't posted in a while. But I'm feeling better now, just a little tired. I go back wednesday for the rest of my chemo treatment. He does it in two parts, so it don't wipe me out.

OK, I gotta go. Stay healthy people.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008

OK, made it this far. Not a whole lot going on. The DR's scheduled everything for after the LSU game (lol). Could be true. Hope I don't see any Gumbo and potato salad for a while. I could go for a rack of baby back ribs about now.

Somebody get rid of this freezin butt weather. (Don't like it....)

Took my boot off the day. The sore is almost completely healed. Not puttin it back on, feels too good without it.

Well just wanted to say Happy New Year, will update next week.
